If there is one band at the folk scene that doesn’t need any introduction, it’s no doubt Accordzéâm. The band famous for crossing all the musical borders in one show will at last come to Prague. What better start of the next 5 years of Prague Balfolk Weekend could we wish for?
Beat Bouet Trio
Breton dancing meets hip hop. Music that makes you party, so much that half of the dancefloor sometimes just goes full pogo. If you have never seen them live, this is a must! And if you have already, we all know you want to do it all again.
Fresh jazzy tunes all the way from Ghent, Belgium. Five-piece band plays their own compositions peppered with a love for gypsy, jazz, balkan, folk and Latin music. Danceable and energetic feel-good music with room for improvisation: that’s Broes’s business card.
Hurdy-gurdy running unwearied, demonic cittern and dark rumble of cajon; surrounded by thick layers of electronic samples. Electroacoustic trio ba.fnu, rushing along the road from tradition to modernity embracing everything: looper and vozembouch, pads and kobza. And it’s been high on crank for more than a year. Dance music? Let the disco roll!
Lucas has a reputation of playing with everyone and being everywhere. When not touring with one of his gazillion bands, he occasionally performs solo as well, both for concerts and balls. Master of his instrument, he will no doubt clearly show us, why he is such a sought performer.
After a huge success for two years in a row, Stefano Baldan returns for the third time with his solo project. Octave madolin, looper and voice. Check also his CD on bandcamp.
Two brilliant kantele players hailing all the way from Finland will show us what can be done with a simple block of wood and few inches of wire. Kanteles look deceptively simple, but beware: the rich, ambient sound they give can easily drone you to trance.
Blues balfolkized and bal folk bluesified. Cigar box guitar, looper, stomp box and a slide. Hollering and stomping to keep your groove going. Or oldtimey, droney sound making for the perfect, cuddly after-party. Check him on Facebook as well!
Vojtěch Nejedlý & Martin Vejvoda
Fresh sprout of the Czech bal folk scene and wild card of the festival! Two seasoned musicians joining their forces in a project where the playful, folk-hipster ukulele meets a classical violoncello. Some serious fun to be expected.
Fiddle, diato, voice and stomping. Mix of energetic traditional songs from Brittany and Poitou, blended with melancholic orignal instrumental compositions. And vice versa. That’s Yanyk.
